Do You Own An 0870 Number? If the answer is "Yes", you need to be aware of some recent changes:
The telecommunications regulator (Ofcom) has been reviewing the pricing structure of numbers beginning 0870, with the aim of making calls cheaper to the consumer. The result of the review is that the cost of calling an 0870 number has been reduced to that of a normal 01 or 02 number. As a result, 0870 owners will lose their revenue share, and in some cases may even start to incur charges on their calls instead. This is good news for callers, but bad news for any business that relies on the current pricing of their 0870 calls. Businesses in this position may need to revise their telecommunications strategy. One option available is to switch your 0870 to an 0845 number. Our 0845 numbers won't cost you anything to route to a UK landline, and they are more popular among callers than 0870.

Important Note: Some telecoms providers are advising their customers to switch from 0870 to 0871. However we recommend strongly against this, despite the revenue it would offer - 0871 have been reclassified as premium rate numbers, making them subject to stringent regulations that makes them unsuitable for use as general-purpose phone numbers. |
